About the UECC
In the early '90s, Riverside’s Eastside community was plagued with crime, poverty and violence. To help provide a solution, the University Eastside Community Collaborative (UECC) was formed in 1994 by the City of Riverside, Riverside Unified School District and the University of California, Riverside. The partnership between the city, school district and university was among the first in the country designed to provide a better life for young people.
The Program
Primarily funded by AmeriCorps, the UECC program seeks to provide tutoring and academic support to students at Eastside area schools and community centers. The program also recruits volunteers to participate in community service events.
Program activities include:
- Academic Assistance
- After School Programs
- Summer Programs
- Community Service Projects
We support our mission by seeking to increase the number of youth and schools served while also encouraging community service participation.
“To improve the lives of youth in the Eastside of Riverside by providing academic assistance in their schools, providing a safe and welcoming after-school environment, and engaging Eastside residents in service to their community.”
