UECC Community Partners

UECC's Community Partners

The UECC program is helping the Eastside community rise to its feet with support from partners and funders like University of California, Riverside, the City of Riverside, Riverside Unified School District and AmeriCorps/CaliforniaVolunteers.

Seal of the UC

University of California, Riverside (UCR)

Without UC Riverside’s help, the UECC could not exist. Besides providing cash and in-kind support to the UECC, the university is responsible for running the program. UCR provides office space and staff to manage the program. Most of the UECC Members attend the university. UCR’s chancellor serves on the UECC advisory board.

City of Riverside

City of Riverside

For years, the City of Riverside has actively supported economic and workforce development efforts to stimulate declining areas. The city has also promoted youth programs that seek to make Riverside a youth-friendly place to live. By supporting programs such as the UECC, Riverside became one of America’s 100 Best Communities for Young People, in 2008, according to America’s Promise Alliance. The city continues to be a major partner for the UECC, providing funding to train and supervise UECC Members at Eastside community centers, as well as in-kind support. UECC members also work with city officials to plan more than 15 community service projects each year. Riverside’s Mayor is a member of the UECC advisory board.

RUSD Seal

Riverside Unified School District (RUSD)

Riverside Unified School District has partnered with the UECC program since its inception. In addition to the cash support provided by RUSD, school principals and teachers oversee UECC at each of the nine Eastside area schools. School site managers are responsible for selecting students who can benefit most from academic assistance and pairing them with UECC Members. Site managers provide training to ensure members are adequately prepared to meet the students’ academic needs. Like UECC’s other partners, the RUSD Superintendent serves on the advisory board.

Americorps

AmeriCorps/ CaliforniaVolunteers

A federally funded program run by The Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps operates at the state and national levels. AmeriCorps provides grants to nonprofit, faith-based and government organizations, US territories and educational institutions to support state and local programs that promote community service. As with the UECC, grant recipients are in charge of managing the program, as well as recruiting and training their own AmeriCorps members. Moreover, recipients are responsible for finding funds and other resources to match the federal funds provided through the grant.

CaliforniaVolunteers is the state office that oversees programs, like AmeriCorps State, as well as an extensive database of California volunteer opportunities. The office’s primary goal is to get more Californians to serve in their communities.
